Condura Skyway Marathon - I Did It!

While passing along Skyway, to and from office, I can still remember my Condura Marathon experience there. So let me share it although it's been more than a month since I did it.

-Before gunstart-

Aiming for a sub5 finish, I decided to run with Allan as my pacer. It has been a great challenge to him because he already ran 38km from his home up to Alabang (where the starting line was located). Yes! I said it right. My pacer did a long run prior to a marathon event. Call him crazy, but that was a part of his training  for his BDM102 this year. (Actually, as of this writing, he already finished that freaking 102km, from Mariveles, Bataan up to San Fernando, Pampanga.)

We did a 4:1 interval, with a run pace of 6:30-6:40 min/km. If we could continue it for the entire race, it will surely bring me a sub5 finish. We maintained it up to 15th km. Everything was so smooth until Allan felt dehydration and can't keep up our pace. He asked me to move ahead and maintain our planned pace while he slowed down for a rest.

As I run and walk, I saw some friends along the route. Waving hello and doing high-five with them were relaxing. I also enjoyed every stride I made with my Mizuno Inspire 8 along the Skyway.

By the 32nd km mark, I felt like I could push some more. It felt like my legs were still fresh. And yeah! I took advantage of that feeling. For the last 10km, I ran all the way. It was a tough course but I'm loving it.

When I crossed the finish line, I was very happy. I finally did it! It was a sub5 finish.

My official time was 04:54:27.

Condura Skyway Marathon is a running event with a HEART. They also provide venue for NGOs to raise funds. They support the following:

1. BIKES FOR THE PHILIPPINES - Founded to reduce dropout rate among school children who have to walk long distances to school and to reach out to dropouts to complete high school equivalency program.

2. HERO FOUNDATION INC. - Provides educational assistance to children of Filipino soldiers killed in action or those totally incapacitated while in the line of duty.It was founded by the late President Cory Aquino & former General Renato De Villa.

3. I CAN SERVE FOUNDATION INC - Promotes early breast cancer detection through information campaigns and community-based screening programs. It provides hope, health and information to women and men diagnosed with breast cancer.

4. LITER OF LIGHT -  a sustainable lighting project which aims to bring the eco-solar bottle bulb to underprivileged communities nationwide.

Aside from the 3 mangroves each runner is donating, they can raise pledges for any or all of the charities Condura Skyway marathon is supporting in 2013.

CONDURA SKYWAY MARATHON KICKS OFF 2013 WITH MORE REASONS TO RUN

PHILIPPINES, November 2012 - The premier marathon event in the country, the Condura Skyway Marathon, Run for the Mangroves 2013 goes to the starting line on February 3, 2013 in Filinvest City, Alabang. It will be the curtain-raiser for the new running year of 2013 - perfect timing for those who are serious in getting back to form after the long series of holidays and merry-making and for those who finally would like to get off that couch and find the fun and fulfilment in running.

Organized by Condura Skyway Marathon’s Founder and Chief Organizing Officer, Ton Concepcion and its running ambassador Patrick Concepcion, the sixth edition of this much-anticipated yearly race event by runners for runners once again is out to prove that it is worthy of its bid to be the premier running event in Asia Pacific.

This year, the race will have the usual 10k, 21k and full 42k marathon categories plus the new 3.8k, 6k which are especially meant for the fun and adventurous runners who are not yet ready to take on the mid to long distance-races. 

By the first hour of February 3, 2013, the Condura Skyway Marathon will again make the Skyway as the runners’ playground. Originating from the Filinvest City in Alabang, runners of all distances will be taken to the Skyway as a major part of their race route – a major attraction that promises runners of an exclusive, traffic-free, clean and well-lit race environment. 

Apart from the challenge and fun that this race has in-store for runners, participating in this race will also mean taking part in the Condura Skyway Marathon advocacy of helping with the reforestation of the Mangroves in Zamboanga de Sibugay in partnership with Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation (PTFCF) . Each runner through their registration, will get to donate three mangrove seedlings which will be planted in his/her name. In 2012, the first year that Condura Skyway Marathon adopted the mangroves reforestation project to its cause, a total of 39,000 seedlings have already been planted in Kabasalan Town through runners’ donation.
